Identifying risk factors and vulnerabilities

Identifying risk factors and vulnerabilities

29 June 2022 | 13:30 - 15:00

Session Objectives
This session explores the risk factors for child labour, forced labour, human trafficking, and modern slavery in three distinct contexts with the goal of identifying evidence-based solutions. Audrey focuses on Eritrean refugees in Sudan and analyses how the COVID-19 pandemic and the concurrent conflicts have influenced migratory ambition, route, and the vulnerability of trafficking. Hasna Hena interviews children working in the waste management sector in Bangladesh. She provides insights on these children’s working conditions and existing policies regarding child labour. Finally, Lucy assesses the effectiveness of social media campaigns of Migrasia – a think tank devoted to migration in Asia – in reducing the incidence of migrant worker exploitation.

We apply quantitative and qualitative methods to analyse child labour, forced labour, and trafficking issues in the context of COVID-19, crisis, and a world of #SocialMedia.
